On Buying Local -pg 100 #1-4

1) Yes, Katherine Spriggs has convinced me that this topic is one that does indeed matter and is now that should be taken seriously. She has convinced me of this by stating all the environmental issues that take place from buying industrial produce and by providing evidence that solutions to these major problems is buying locally.
2) Spriggs dose state major counterarguments she writes, "Some argue that buying local can actually have negative environmental effects" after this she goes on stating what these so called "negative environmental effects" are. Basically it comes down to people saying its a waste of time as well as effort to try to grow things, her example being a pineapple, in places where it will not naturally thrive.  She leads us back to her argument by saying thats not what she's encouraging, she's not stating that we should try to grow pineapple in Washington, she's trying to encourage buying as much local products as possible meaning produce which is locally grown near you.
3) Paragraph 3 starts by saying "In 2010, the international community is facing many environmental challenges, including global warming, pollution, and dwindling fossil fuel resources." she goes on by stating how all these issues really effect everyone and what causes them. As well as mentioning these important issues and how industrial produce is a cause of them and many more, she also takes her argument, that we should buy locally, and offers it as a solution to these problems. Backing up her statements with factual evidence and opinions from experts solidifies her point, and therefor makes it and clearly identifies why this is a topic that matters.
4) The pictures Sprigg's includes in her essay give the audience a visual which she then uses to help back up her argument. allowing the audience to see the semis, in fig. 4, traveling cross country to deliver produce solidifies her point that this is waste of natural resources being used to transport these items.
